The Desert Iguana, dipsosaurus dorsalis, is common in the Mojave: beautiful, harmless and strict vegetarian. I met this one in the tiny ghost town of Danby. He was posing on a sheet of rusty corrugated metal, once a part of someone's roof. Human habitation comes and goes out here. The lizard abides.
