Arlen

Arlen

Arlen's kind of cooking was an all afternoon affair, and people (especially the ladies who loved his big, deep John Wayne drawl) would always sit around and chat with Arlen. I was painting on this at the MDHCA rendezvous. I had no idea if Arlen would like my rendition of him, but he did, and bought it, still unfinished. From time to time he would check on me, and say "YOU STILL DAUBIN' ON THAT??" He intended to take it with him when the weekend was over, and, as was pointed out to me, "If you aren't finished with it then, he'll probably take you with it!"
When he died a few years later, this painting, his hat, and boots made up the memorial at his funeral.
