This is the one most significant streamer-pole of all the many. The long saddleback ridge in the background IS Yucca Mountain. The three volcanic cones in the valley were called by the Shoshone "The Serpent Swimming West", because they looked like the undulations of a great body breaking through the surface. Recent volcanism is an excellent reason for not wanting a nuclear repository here.
