Sunset on the Santa Fe

Sunset on the Santa Fe

I was at Goffs. it was getting on toward sunset. The sun would sink into a band of clouds, and then drop beneath it, causing the orange-and-purple light effects to switch off and on. I heard a train coming, and thought, "If the sun comes back at the right moment to catch the train, the effect should be spectacular." Camera bouncing around my neck, I ran flat-out toward Route 66 and the train tracks on the other side. I could easily have wound up face down in the dirt on top of a smashed camera. The sun broke through again. I took one picture with no train. The train pulled by Goffs Butte. I took two more pictures with train, The sun went down. The train went on.
