In 2000/2001 a band of Shoshone put a sacred enclosure around the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste storage facility to prevent its use. They ran a relay around the whole Nevada Test Site: it took two seasons, and planted these poles every mile along their route, topped with the six sacred colors of east, west, north, south, up and down. When the hole was dug for each one, a prayer was said down the hole. I'd like to know what it was-- it's worked so far.
The Master of Specie Spring

A few miles north of the Shoshone spirit pole, a road turns left into the Bare Mountains up Tarantula Canyon. In the upper reaches of that canyon is an enormous spring, with trees, green grass and reeds. If you continue past the spring, A bighorn ram will come clattering down the mountainside, and question your right to be there. It is his spring, after all.

Another attempt at anonymous portraiture,
(like the 2003 "Chief Joseph Pattern") features my eldest daughter, who also had some issues with getting into the clothes and turquoise I brought for her.
